Construction Support Services

We have always strongly believed it is important for the Engineer of Record or another Professional Engineer familiar with structural systems to be actively involved during the Construction Phase of the project. We have provided this type of service on many projects. Our philosophy is to work with the Contractor and Design Team to resolve issues that arise during construction as quickly as possible, addressing these issues immediately and involving the necessary members of the design team in the resolution. Our willingness to assist during the construction allows the contractor to feel comfortable contacting us with questions. Ultimately this results in proper construction and timely completion.

In 1989, the BOCA code began requiring Special Inspections of structures as part of the approval process for projects. GNCB quickly grasped the value to the public of this requirement and sought ways to implement it. Quality assurance during the construction phase is needed because of the increasing complexity of construction and the use of modern high-strength materials. Special Inspection allows for inspection of fabrication, more time on site for construction observation and required testing of materials. A comprehensive report with construction observations and material testing is submitted to the building department prior to issuance of a certificate of use and occupancy.

GNCB also provides services as a project representative during construction. The value of this service is that the owner gets more intense monitoring of the work of the contractor, and the architect gets more site representation to resolve issues that arise. Working on a part-time or full-time basis, the project representative provides information to the owner and architect on the progress of work and observes installed work for conformance to specifications and elimination of deviations. He or she can also assist in tracking submittals, site personnel, change orders, field sketches and other day-to-day operations of the project. [ Top ]
